Since I’ve been coloring my hair various shades of dark brown, black and burgundy over the past year, I figured it would be a great idea to invest in a good leave-in UV protector for my locks! The perfect product would be a leave-in spray or cream that would nourish the hair, protect the color from the sun/elements and not weigh the hair down or cause excess oiliness.
This past summer I tried a bottle of Biolage by Matrix Color Care Shielding Shine Mist. I should have looked at the consistancy of the product in the bottle as well as paid more attention to the word “shine” on the packaging. Those two things may have clued me in on the fact that the mist would make my hair look like I hadn’t washed it in days. I obviously don’t want the color to fade on the top of my head so I’m not going to avoid that area. I ended up returning the product since it made me look like a greasy mess.
Since then, I haven’t used any special products besides my Aveda Color Care shampoo and conditioner to protect my hair color. A few months ago, I purchased a cute little travel sized set of goodies from Aveda. I specifically wanted to try the Sun Care Protective Hair Veil. Unfortunately, it made my hair greasy just like the Biolage mist! I’m glad I only have the small bottle which I will use on my ends from now on.
The next runner up is an item which was given to me as a sample and did not come with the kit. The last little bottle on the right in the image above is the new leave-in Color Conserve Daily Color Protect. I actually got a few little samples of this and can’t wait to try it out! I will be coloring my hair again soon and will give it a shot then. If it works well and doesn’t make me look oily, then I will buy a full sized bottle!!
I’ve even planned backup of the Aveda doesn’t work….
Have you tried any of these products?
